What’s new in HTML 5?

To know about HTML 5 , we  have to know first know general knowledge or concept  about the HTML.

HTML is a markup language for describing web documents (web pages).

  • HTML stands for Hyper Text Markup Language
  • A markup language is a set of markup tags
  • HTML documents are described by HTML tags
  • Each HTML tag describes different document content

HTML documents are made up by HTML elements.

HTML Elements

HTML elements are written with a start tag, with an end tag, with the content in between:


The HTML element is everything from the start tag to the end tag:

Example:<p>My first paragraph.</p>

There are many things new in HTML5 Elements.

<article> Defines an article in the documents
<aside> Defines content aside from the page content
<bdi> Defines a part of text the at might be formatted in different direction in other text.
<details> Defines additional details that the user can view or hide
<dialog> Defines dialog box or windows
<figcaption> Defines a caption for a <figure>element.
<figure> Defines self-contained content,like illustration,diagrams,phots,etc
<footer> Defines a footer for the document or a section
<header> Defines a header for the document or a section
<main> Defines the main content of document
<mark> Define mark or highlighted text
<menu item> Defines a command/menu item that the user can invoke from a popup menu.
<meter> Defines a scalar measurement within a known range
<nav> Defines the navigation links in the documents.
<progress> Defines the progress of task
<rp> Defines what to shows in browsers that do not support ruby annotations.
<rt> Defines an explanation of characters
<ruby> Defines a ruby annotation
<section> Defines a section in the document
<summary> Defines a visible heading for a <details> element
<time> Defines a date/time
<wbr> Defines a possible line break
